Abstract

A field experiment in respect of integrated nutrient management in maize (Zea mays L.)-wheat (Triticum aestivum L. emend. Fiori & Poal.) cropping system was conducted during 2001-02 and 2002-03, at the Dryland Research Sub-Station, Jammu, to study the effect of different sources of nutrient supply, viz. organics and inorganics, in maize and the subsequent effect on succeeding wheat crop. The highest mean maize, wheat and wheat-equivalent yield of the system was recorded with the application of 10 tonnes FYM + 40 kg Nlha. Production efficiency in terms of rate of production per day as well as the benefit : cost ratio were also superior with this treat- ment. Application of organic manures also improved the nutrient status of the soil.
