Abstract

1 This index is based on earlier estimates and methods of the National Research Project of the Works Progress Administration (2).2 USDA gross farm production includes the output of farm-produced power of horses and mules and the production of grass and legume seeds.The former item accounted for one-fifth of gross farm production in the period 1914-19 (13, p. 36).Kendrick's net farm output is a measure of value-added in agriculture.Details of the definitions and methods underlying these series are presented in the Appendix.8 Kendrick uses changing weight periods similar to the USDA; hence, his series of gross farm output corresponds closely to USDA farm output.
