Abstract

In this paper, a multi-sector, multi-region computable general equilibrium model is built to address issues related to the linkages between transport of commodities and other sectors of the economy, and to analyze the intersectoral and interregional effects of government policies. The model, known as GET-0, emphasizes the interlinkages between the different modes of transport with the rest of the economy. The model is calibrated on Canadian data. Simulation scenarios are performed to analyze intermodal, intersectoral, and interregional effects generated by various government policy options. In particular, fiscal and general taxation policy, as well as environmental policy regarding the transportation sector in Canada, are investigated.
