Abstract

Most people are already aware of the existence of tautological words are, for example, 돈金庫, 새新郞, 외獨子, 驛前앞, 面刀칼, 外家집...These are noun compounds. There are also verb compounds such as 그림으로 圖解하다, 圖解하다, 圖解하여 풀다, 짧게 略述하다, 略述하여 적다(말하다), 스스로 自覺하다, 자각하여 깨닫다. As can be seen from the examples given above, this sort of tautological compounding is obtained from listing a Chinese character and a pure Korean word that convey the same meaning. The effects of using such compound words are that of emphasis and rhetorical sophistication. However, these words are not the object of investigation since the speech community already recognizes these words as such....
