Abstract

Procedures and equipment are described for the separation of tritium from hydrogen by thermal diffusion. The method has been used for the production of research quantities of tritium. The tritinm is produced in nuelear reactors by the reaction /sub 3/Li/sup 6/ + /sub 0/n/sup 1/ = /sub 2/He/sup 4/ + /sub 1/H/ sup 3/ + e nergy. The hydrogen isotopes are adsorbed on activated charcoal, and the purified gas is fed to a thermal-diffusion column for the separation of hydrogen from tritium. (C.H.)
