CHANGES IN SNOW-REMOVAL METHODS WILL OCCUR WHEN SNOW REMOVAL IS FULLY RECOGNIZED AS AN ENGINEERING PROBLEM AND SUFFICIENT ENGINEERING STUDIES ARE MADE. BECAUSE ADEQUATE INFORMATION AND DATA ARE NOT AVAILABLE, THE DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE OF SNOW-REMOVAL EQUIPMENT HAS CHANGED VERY LITTLE SINCE THE 1930'S. SOME OF THE NEEDED ENGINEERING STUDIES DISCUSSED IN THIS PAPER ARE (1) ADVANTAGES OF SNOW- THROWING OVER SNOWPLOWING, ESPECIALLY IN PREVENTING SNOWBANKS OR SNOW TRAPS FROM ACCUMULATING ALONG HIGHWAYS; (2) RELATIONSHIPS AMONG DESIGN OF EQUIPMENT, SPEED OF VEHICLE, AMOUNT OF SNOW, AND DISTANCES SNOW CAN BE THROWN; AND (3) SAFETY FEATURES REQUIRED ON SNOW-THROWING EQUIPMENT OPERATED IN THE 20 TO 30 MPH RANGE. /AUTHOR/
