Report of Xiphinema insigne (Loos, 1949) and Longidorus elongatus (deMan, 1876; Thorne and Swanger, 1936 (Dorylaimida: Longidoroidea) from Rhizosphere of Neglected Apple Trees of Kashmir, India

Xiphinema insigne (Loos, 1949), the dagger nematode as well as Longidorus elongatus (deMan, 1876; Thorne and Swanger, 1936), the needle nematode of order dorylaimida and superfamiy longideroidea are being described and illustrated from rhizosphere of neglected apple trees of Baramulla, Kashmir India. X. insigne is recognized by female body diamentions as L = 2.10 (1.98-2.25) mm; a=53 (51 -56); b= 5.6 (5.2-6.80); c=21 (20-24); c’ = 3.5 (3.2-3.6); v=31 (30-32); odentostylet = 91 (84 -107); odonophore = 55 (49-61); total stylet length = 146 (133-168) with Body slightly arcuate; anteriorly tapering gradually from base of stylet, then more noticeably from a point four to five lip region widths behind oral opening, Posteriorly, body tapering evenly from anus to tail terminus. Cuticular annulation indiscernible with cuticular annulation indiscernible. Lip region hemispherical, 11 μ wide, set off from rest of body by slight constriction. Lips completely amalgamated; labial papillae obscure. Tail uniformly elongate-conical, about five anal-body-widths in length of 110 μm long, with a hyaline, non protoplasmic tip 14 μm guiding ring from the anterior extremity. L. elongatus is recognised by female body dimensions as L= 4.3 (3.9 -4.7) mm; a=119 (115 -123); b=18.3 (16.8-18.0); c=125 (122-128) c’ = 1.1 (1.0-1.3); v=52 (48 -54) ; odentostylet = 96 (81 -99); odonophore = 46 (35-53); total stylet length = 142 (116152) μm. with Body long and narrow slightly coiled when killed by heat; narrows anteriorly to a lip region that is continuous with or very slightly offset from the neck contour.
