Abstract

The development of a more efficient, safe, and competitive transportation system is a matter of applying new technologies, as a part of a developed infrastructure. Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) allow for the provision of greater economic and social benefits. Emergency vehicle drivers as well as traffic engineers know that for effective incident management, traffic passing must be regulated at its normal point of conflict or signalized intersection. Control of the intersection means automatic command of traffic movement and safety. The Opticom Priority Control System delivers that control. It supports emergency service by giving the natural safety of green lights when they are needed and is especially designed to provide an advantage for authorized high occupancy vehicles.
