Abstract

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of photoperiodic treatments on growth and flowering of Crocosmia crocosmiiflora. Number of shoots sprouted and leaves, plant height and leaf length increased in short-day (8 hr) as compared to those in other treatments. Flower bud did not form in short-day treatment. Flowering time was shortened by 40 to 50 days in long-day (16 hr) as compared to that in natural day length. Flower stalk length and number of florets increased in long-day as compared to those in natural day length. Flowering time was shortened by 30 to 40 days in night break treatment (2 hr) as compared to that in natural day length. Growth was not so much different in night break treatment and in long-day treatment.
