Denison Fishing Boat Harbour

This paper describes aspects of the investigation, design and construction of a rubble mound breakwater protected fishing boat harbour constructed on the central Western Australian coast for use by vessels engaged in the rock lobster day fishery. Wave climate, the availability of natural rock materials for breakwater construction, potential littoral drift and shoreline movements are important matters which were considered when determining the harbour layout and breakwater design. The harbour has provided a safe refuge for fishing vessels and recreational craft without causing any serious maintenance problems. It can accommodate additional berthing, mooring and boat maintenance facilities to keep pace with future industry needs.
