THE ASSESSMENT OF INTEGRATED LAND USE AND TRANSPORT PLANNING STRATEGIES

Described is the European Commission's TRANSPLUS (TRANSport Planning Land Use and Sustainability) project that aims to identify best practice in the organization of land use and transport measures in order to reduce car dependency in European cities and regions and promote economic, social and environmental improvement. The project work is being carried out through six work packages: System analysis of trends and strategies; assessment of integrated land use and transport planning strategies; assessment of implementation strategies; assessment of barriers, potential solutions and their transferability; information, communication and participation - promoting the integration of citizens and stakeholders in urban decision making; and, creation of a network of European cities to contribute to the project, to exchange ideas and to disseminate and exploit the acquired knowledge.
