Outputs from the large and largely unexpected injection of government funding into the housing sector since 2008 via the Social Housing Initiative (SHI) and the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS) offer Australian governments a convincing demonstration of how to develop more and better affordable housing in future; that is, by giving not-for-profit housing providers a much bigger role operating as affordable housing developers and managers.
