Abstract
This case study discusses a single-track line with mixed passenger and freight traffic. The observed experiment is designed with a definite number of randomly generated versions of timetables and looks for those with the best results. Based on these best versions of timetables, a representative coefficient for freight train elimination is introduced. This model is an upgrade that uses outputs from the basic model of a single-track line capacity. The upgraded model is linked toward the train movement simulation, timetable elaboration by freight train elimination, and economic evaluation. The observed line has a considerable demand for freight transport. Because of changes at the transport market, passengers' requests, and competition of the motorway road network, a request for the introduction of passenger trains arises. This introduction means the elimination of some freight trains. The income and profit from freight services can be calculated; consequently, the elimination of freight trains can be expressed as the opportunity costs. For such new service, it is possible to calculate the necessary values for business plan elaboration.
