Abstract

Concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) in sewage sludge derived from 41 typical municipal wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs) in the Yangtze River Delta area of China were determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GCMS).The results showed that the sewage sludge samples contained polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon compounds generally, among which 3-ring and 4-ring compounds were predominant, while the volatile 2-ring and refractory 5-ring and 6-ring compounds were less. The total quantity of PAHs ranged from 8.543 to 55.807 μg /g.Significant differences existed between ΣPAHs content from different sludge samples.PAHs in different regions were significantly different, which average is Zhejiang(34.117 μg /g) Jiangsu(19.487 μg/g) Shanghai(10.665 μg/g);PAHs of different types urban sludge is little difference, which average is industrial sewage sludge(28.912 μg/g) scramble the sludge(26.843 μg/g) sewage sludge(26.843 μg/g).
