Abstract

The aim of the paper is to investigate the power relations within Roma communities, with a focus on gender relations, and to analyze their impact on violence against Roma women. The research proposal aims to develop an accurate description of who has power over whom in Roma communities, the means through which this power is being exercised in everyday life, and what mechanisms could be to remedy these inequalities. The proposed study of the power relations and of violence against Roma women will be an empirical inquiry that investigates this acute contemporary phenomenon within their real-life context by using a conceptual framework based on radical feminist theories.
