Abstract
The presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in tissues offish from KoUeru lake was determined. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons measured were anthracene, fluoranthene, pyrene crysene, benzo(e) pyrene perylene, benzo (a) pyrene, dibenz (ac) anthracene, dibenz(ah) anthracene, benzo(ghi) perylene and coronene. Fish samples were collected at different points from Kolleru lake in different seasons in a year over a period of three years and analysed for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons using high pressure liquid chromatography. 89 out of 128 fish samples analysed contained at least two or three PAHs and their concentrations were also higher.PAHs concentrations in tissues decreased in the order liver> gills>muscle.
