Abstract
Vertical seismic profiling (VSP) is a proven powerful technique to image the subsurface and measure the velocity and lithologic structure around the borehole. The analysis of VSP also provides insight into seismic-wave propagation through the earth media. Two dimensional zero-offset synthetic vertical seismic profiles are generated by using 2D finite difference vicoelastic modeling code. The anelastic properties of layer media have appreciable influence on seismic attenuation. The reliable estimation of amplitude spectrum are desire to compute the attenuation factor Q. In this paper we used the spectral ratio method is used to determine the amplitude spectra of the different known VSP depth levels for forward Q modeling. Key words: Q factor, VSP, synthetic seismogram, forward modeling.
