Abstract

The status of emergence of resistance in gastrointestinal nematodes against benzimidazole, levamisole and macrocyclic lactone group of anthelmintics was studied in non-descript local goats and cattle of Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh by in vivo faecal egg count reduction test and in vitro egg hatch assay. Three anthelmintics, viz., albendazole, levamisole and ivermectin, were used using recommended therapeutic doses by oral route for the first two group of anthelmintics and by subcutaneous route for ivermectin. The study revealed anthelmintic resistance against three classes of anthelmintics (albendazole, levamisole and ivermectin) in goats of Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh. The study also revealed resistance to levamisole and ivermectin in cattle with suspected albendazole resistance. This seems to be the first report of anthelmintc resistance in ruminant livestock in Chhattisgarh state.
