Abstract
Abstract Background : Metabolic syndrome is the syndrome clustering of three or more of the following abnormalities : wide waist circumference (abdominal obesity), high serum triglyceride, low HDL, high blood pressure and high fasting plasma glucose and promotes atherosclerosis and increases the risk of developing diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease as well as mortality. At the first of diagnosis of metabolic syndrome is reduce complications and improve healthy. Objective : To assess prevalence of metabolic syndrome and each component of metabolic syndrome on among Phangkhon Hospitalus personnel Study design : Cross - sectional descriptive study Subject : Phangkhon Hospitalus personnel which the age upto 35 years old Result : There were 111 personnel of Phangkhon hospital which were 27 (24.3 %) men and 84 (75.7 %) women at the end of the study. The mean age was 43.4 years. Phangkhon Hospitalus personnel with metabolic syndrome were 14.4 % (10.8 % in women and 3.6 % in men). Conclusion : In 2007, Phangkhon hospital physical check up program for all personnel in the hospital. Prevalence of metabolic syndrome in Phangkhon Hospitalus personnel were mostly in women. Prevalence of each component of metabolic syndrome were mostly fasting plasma glucose. The recognition of metabolic syndrome is an important challenge for physicians and healthcare providers. Lifestyle modification is immediately needed to reduce levels of individual metabolic traits which may decrease atherosclerosis risk in personnel with metabolic syndrome. Key Words : Metabolic syndrome, Abdominal obesity, Lifestyle modification
