Effect of Dietary Cotton Seed Cake on the Performance of Layers

Abstract
Groundnut cake (GNC) was replaced by Decorticated deoiled double toasted cotton seed cake (DI)DTCSC) at 0, 25, 50,75 and 100 per cent (w/w) and isonitrogenous- isocaloric basis in layer rations in first and second experiments, respectively. The experiments were conducted separately for 5 x 28 d periods. The lien-day egg production, feed intake, feed efficiency, body weight, egg weight, shell thickness, albumen index, yolk index, yolk colour, haemoglobin, total serum proteins and serum alkaline phophatase were not significantly affected in both the experiments. Mortality and cause there of were independent of dietary treatments. DDDTCSC can safely replace GNC upto 75 and 100 per cent level on w/w and isonitrogenous - isocaloric basis, respectively in the terms of profit over feed cost compared to other diets.
