Abstract

Agronomic and morphological characters were investigated in 30 strains of vegetable cowpea. Days to flowering exhibited a significant variation in ‘kharif and ‘rabi’ seasons. The strain EC 305827 showed the highest yield per plant, pod length, pod weight and number of seeds per pod. The number of pods per plant ranged from 18 to 57. The strain 1–101 exhibited the highest pods per plant. The number of seeds per pod varied between 8.29 and 20.33. Diverse variability was found in almost all the characters studied especially plant type, pod length, seed colour, pod weight, number of seeds per pod, number of pods per plant and peduncle length.
