Abstract

Field trials were undertaken during cotton seasons of 2002–03 and 2003–04 with American cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L. var. Pusa 8–6) to evaluate the bioefficacy of acetamiprid 20% SP against sucking insect pests of cotton. Acetamiprid 20% SP at its three doses (20, 40, 80g ai/ha) were effective in suppressing the population of jassid and whitefly significantly up to nine days. All the insecticidal treatments were also significantly effective against thrips. Aphid population was nil during early crop season i.e. up to September, however it started appearing from mid-October and at such stage of the crop significant difference among the treatments was also not observed. The maximum yield (955.5 kg/ha, 1128.8 kg/ha) was recorded in T4 (acetamiprid 80g ai/ha) followed by its next lower dose 40g ai/ha (727.7 kg/ha, 922.2 kg/ha) during cotton season 2002–03 and 2003–04 respectively. The seed cotton yield in untreated control was only 498.8 kg/ha in 2002–03 and 627.7 kg/ha in 2003–04.
