Abstract
Nine fistulated adult crossbred animals were equally divided into A, B and C groups. AIJ the animals were fed concentrate mixture and wheat straw, but in groups Band C, 150 and 300g salt respectively was infused intra-ruminally. While DM intake were not affected due to treatment, water consumption increased progressively and significantly. Total N, TCA-ppt-N, ammonia-N and NPN content in rumen liquor decreased progressively due to feeding of salt indicating greater bypass of N to lower digestive tract. Bacterial production rate and the efficiency of nitrogen conversion into bacterial protein were lower in salt fed animals.
