Disease and symptoms caused by plant pathogenic bacteria.

This chapter elaborates on the basis of symptoms formation in plants infected with pathogenic bacteria. Characteristics of the bacteria and factors that affect pathogenicity (such as toxigenicity, virulence, aggressiveness and ice-nucleation activity) are described. The plant factors that determine susceptibility and resistance to a bacterial pathogen are listed. The molecular basis for interaction between the bacteria and a host or non-host is discussed in relation with pathogenicity, virulence and resistance. The phases of pathogenicity and the usual symptoms associated with bacterial infection are enumerated and described.
