Surgical and Orthodontic Intervention of Complicated Impacted Maxillary Incisors: Report of Two Cases

It is not uncommon to see an impacted or unerupted maxillary incisor in the children's dental clinic. The etiologies of impacted maxillary incisors are multifactorial. Among them, supernumerary teeth and root dilacerations are two common local factors. In addition, genetic factors and nutritional imbalance can also affect the tooth development and eruption. This report presents two complicated cases of uneruption. These are 1) the case of an inversely impacted permanent maxillary incisor secondary to a supernumerary tooth, and 2) the case of severe root dilacerations of a horizontally impacted incisor with midline deviation, severe space deficiency and congenital absence of bilateral mandibular lateral incisors. The purpose of this article was to illustrate the surgical technique and orthodontic traction bringing the impacted teeth into proper alignment.
