Dissipation of Aldicarb and Carbofuran Residues in Potatoes Grown in North Western Higher Hills

Abstract

A replicated field experiment was conducted using potato cv. ‘Kufri Jyoti’ during summer season (April to September) under long-day and rainfed conditions at Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) for studying the dissipation of aldicarb (Temik) 10 G and carbofuran (Furadan) 3 G @ 1.0 and 1.5 kg a.i./ha applied to soil. Aldicarb and carbofuran residues in unprocessed potatoes from 1.0 and 1.5 kg a.i./ha dosages persisted above the tolerance limits of 0.5 ppm upto 118 and 118/76.days, after planting and planting/earthing time application of granules respectively. Aldicarb and carbofuran residues in unprocessed potatoes, at harvest were either undetectable (except aldicarb @ 1.5 kg a.i./ha) or well within the tolerance limits. Residues of these insecticides in processed potatoes and water obtained after cooking were within the tolerance limits.
