THE FEDERAL INTEREST IN URBAN MASS TRANSPORTATION

Abstract

The article describes federal policy and interest in urban transportation. The Housing Act of 1961 authorized three programs of federal assistance to local communities and regional bodies in the solution of urban transportation problems. The principal features of these programs include mass transportation loan programs, mass transportation demonstration grant programs, transportation planning, and advances for public works planning.
