Abstract
The persistence of alpha and beta isomers of endosulfan in three different types of acidic soils in Kerala under submerged condition was studied in a laboratory experiment. The results of the experiment revealed that persistence of endosulfan was maximum in laterite soil followed by sandy loam and least in red loam soil. The half life of α-isomer was lower than that of p-isomer in all the three soils. Persistence was more when the treatment level was high. The persistence in soil was found to be dependent on aspects like pH, presence of inert clay content, organic matter content and the concentration of endosulfan used for treatment.
