Performance of Induced Mutants in Moth Bean

Abstract

Seeds of ‘Jadia’ variety of moth bean [Vigor acomlifolia (Jacq.) Marechal] were treated with aqueous solutions of EMS with 0- 3% concentrations and 2”) mutants showing a higher number of pods than the patents were isolated in the M2 generation. The mutants were further carried forward upto M5 and M6 generation and tested uuder dry band conditions for then yield performance along with other high yielding varieties. It was observed that mutants. ‘JMM-211’. ‘JMM-259’ and ‘JMM-60’ consistently maintained supertority 111 yield and pod number per plant over then puent ‘Jadia’ under varying conditions of rainfall. They also exhibited a combination of higher yield potential, earliness in maturity and high degree of tolerance to drought conditions It has been proved that variation for pod number pel plant and growth pattern m moth bean could be brought about by induced mutations.
