Abstract

A total of 103 strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae isolated from men with florid gonorrhoea were studied for sensitivity to 10 antibiotics by an agar plate dilution method to determine the minumum inhibition concentrations. With penicillin ampicillin streptomycin kanamycin and erythromycin the strains showed a bimodal distribution. No change was observed in the percentage of strains which were less sensitive to penicillin over the last 10 years. The percentage of strains less sensitive to tetracyclin however had doubled in this period. (authors)
