Abstract
Measurement of the somatic cell concentration of raw milk is widely accepted as an indicator of mastitis and milk quality. However there are no commercially available automated on-line sensors to measure Somatic Cell Count (SCC) for on-farm use. This paper discusses the development of an automated SCC sensor based on measuring the DNA concentration and describes its performance.
