Abstract
Water level variation is one of the main triggering factors of landslides in reservoirs. Globally, many catastrophic landslides have been triggered during filling-drawdown cycles of reservoirs (Paronuzzi et al. 2013). In the Three Gorges Reservoir of China, the Shuping landslide was reactivated by the initial impoundment in 2003. The results obtained from a long period of monitoring indicate that the movement of the landslide corresponds with the change in water level. The progressive movement was found to be more active during periods of reservoir level drawdown (Wang et al. 2008).
