Effect of Newer Insecticides against White Fly, Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) and Jassid, Amrasca biguttula biguttula (Ishida) on Cotton

Abstract

Three doses each of acetamiprid SP, clothianidin WG, dinotefuron SG and thiamethoxam WG were evaluated against cotton white fly, Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) and jassid, Amrasca biguttula biguttula (Ishida) at the Research Farm of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Kalyani, West Bengal, during the pre-kharif season of 2011 and 2012. Two sprays of each insecticide were applied at fifteen days interval. The most effective insecticide in controlling the white fly population was clothianidin 40 g ha−1 followed by acetamiprid at 40 g ha−1. In case of jassid, dinotefuron proved best at 40 g ha−1 followed by clothianidin at 40 g ha−1. The least effective insecticide was acetamiprid at 20 g ha−1. Highest seed cotton yield was observed in dinotefuron 40 g ha−1 treated plot (10.88 q ha−1) followed by the same at 30 g ha−1 (10.08 q ha−1).
