Nursing in General Practice - an Evolving Specialty

There is a steadily increasing recognition of the contribution that nurses can make in general practice. They have been largely accepted as an important resource to support the services of general practitioners. A general practice nurse is a registered or enrolled nurse who is employed by, or whose services are retained by, a medical general practice. A general practice nurse can also be a nurse practitioner - a nurse with extended and expanded skills, experience and knowledge who has completed either a Master's or a Doctoral degree. These are much less common.
