Abstract
Eight commercial cultivars and three local selections of ber were evaluated for thirteen characters. Sufficient genetic variability was observed for most of characteristics studied. The genetic coefficient of variation ranged from 9.17 per cent for specific gravity to 47.07 per cent for pulp weight. The high heritability with high genetic advance was observed for per cent fruit set, fruit length, fruit breadth, fruit weight, stone weight, stone length, stone diameter, pulp weight and fruit yield/tree. Selection of these traits may be effective for the improvement of ber.
