Abstract
A field experiment was conducted during 1993–94, 94–95 and 95–96 at PAU, Ludhiana to study the performance of five genotypes, PC5 of Brassica carinata, PGSH51, GSL1 and GSL2 of Brassica napus and RLM619 of Brassica juncea under three dates of sowing (20 Oct, 15 Nov. & 10 Dec). Results reveal that highest yield of all the genotypes was obtained when sowing was done on 20 Oct and there was significant reduction with delay in sowing. However, significant interaction between genotypes and sowing dates indicate that in 20 Oct. and 15 Nov sowing all the Brassica sp. performed equally well. However, under delayed sowing (10 Dec) PC5 genotype of Brassica carinata significantly outyielded all the genotypes of other species. Highest oil content (42.3%), seed yield (18.22 q/ha) and oil yield (7.8 q/ha) on three year basis was recorded in early sown (20 Oct.) crop and decreased significantly with delay in sowing. All the th:ee genotypes of Brassica napus recorded higher oil content than that of Brassica juncea and Brassica carinata genotypes.
