Abstract
This paper presents a method for the optimisation of the design parameters for a steering axle on a wheeled agricultural tractor using the criterion of minimal tyre wear on the front wheels. The method is based on two conditions for minimal tyre wear derived in a previous publication. The method has proven its effectiveness during the optimisation of the design parameters of the steering axle of an agricultural tractor MTZ–80. It can be used successfully in the practice for design and improvement of rear–axle driven wheeled vehicles with solid–axle suspensions.
