Abstract
This paper summarized the progress made in waxy corn breeding program in China. There were three stages in waxy corn breeding history, the main breeding methods, achievements, problems and possible solutions at each stage were expounded. At present, improving native cultivars of waxy corn and inbred lines derived form first cycle selection by introduction useful genes from yellow maize was the primary method widely used in waxy corn breeding program.Developing inbred lines by selection from the progenies of waxy corn hybrid was secondary method, which was likely to become the primary one.Introduction of useful genes accumulated in yellow maize was the best way to expand gene pool of waxy corn.
