Abstract
Most near-field antenna measurements use the sampling theorem of λ/2 to reconstruct the antenna pattern perfectly. However, a large amount of sampling points of electric field must be measured. To address this problem, this paper presents a technique that accelerates near-field antenna measurement by reducing the number of sampling points. This is achieved by sparsely sampling the region of the electric field where it changes smoothly and densely sampling the region of the electric field where it changes rapidly. Experimental results of a 74-GHz horn antenna reveal that the number of sampling points is reduced by approximately 69%.
