Abstract

In this paper, we give an introduction to optical burst switching (OBS) and compare it with other existing optical switching paradigms. We analyze and then compare performance models of a fast-adapting and centrally controlled form of optical circuit switching (OCS) with a conservative form of optical burst switching (OBS). We compare Optical Burst Switching with Optical Circuit Switching and Optical Packet Switching techniques.
