Abstract
Yield potential and adaptation of 40 maize hybrids during spring and 34 hybrids during kharif was evaluated in Dera Ismail Khan region, NWFP (now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Pakistan during 2006. In spring season, maize hybrid NK-6413 outyielded rest of the hybrids producing a grain yield of 8.667 tons per hectare. Maximum days (70) taken to 50 percent pollen shedding were observed in hybrid 7117 while minimum in hybrids Sitara-101, AM.D and 34N43 (61 each). Hybrid 7117 was found late maturing as compared to hybrid 34N43 (63 days). Maximum plant height was noted in hybrid 32W86 (230 cm) and higher plant population (73333/ha) was recorded in hybrid Hicorn 8288. In kharif season, hybrid 30K08 produced higher grain yield (9.551 t/ha). Hybrid 691BS31 took more days to 50 percent pollen shedding (58) and hybrid 61BS31 reached to mid silking after 61 days and was found comparatively late maturing. The tallest plants were produced by hybrid 30K08 (225 cm) while higher plant population was noted in hybrid 69K454-4 (76000/ha).
