Abstract
Summary The development of markers-assisted selection strategies is one of the main priority in pome fruit breeding. Many different types of DNA analyses have been used to identify markers linked to both monogenic and multigenic traits in apple (Malus × domestica Borkh.) while still a few reports are available on European (Pyrus communis L.) and Asian (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai) pears. The state of the art in the application of molecular markers in pome fruit breeding is reviewed and updated.
