Abstract

The biological groups within the Lycaenidae created by Hinton (195 I) are resurrected and updated. The life histories of Durbania amakosa natalensis van Son, iolaus trimeni Wallengren, PoecUmit;s aureus van Son, Spindasis phanes (Tri­ men), Hoeides den/atis (Swierstra), Lepidochrysops ignota (Trimen) are described in detail for the first time and additional observations are made on several other species. The importance of larval stages to the higher classification of the Lycaenidae is discussed.
