Analysis on Sewing Performance of Ring, Rotor, Airjet and DREF-3 Friction Spun Yarn Fabrics

Abstract

Introduction The seam performance and appearance depend on various factors such as seam strength, seam slippage, seam puckering and sewing threads. The seam efficiency ratio falls below 80%, the fabric experiences excessive seam damage by sewing operation. A large number of studies have determined the seam strength according to ASTM 1683-04 standards and few studies had evaluated the seam quality for the functional, and the aesthetic. In the apparel industry, the seam quality is evaluated based on the sewing thread type and size, fabric, needle size, stitch types and density. Seam slippage is expressed as the transverse ratio of seam strength to fabric strength evaluated according to the ASTM 1683-04 for evaluation of seam quality. In technical textile garments have to undergo various stress and strain on seam. From the above literature there is no extensive study on the sewing performance of Ring, Rotor, Airjet and DREF-3 Friction Spun Fabrics. Hence it is necessary to study the Seam performance above fabrics.
