INTEGRATION OF RCRA AND CERCLA: A CASE STUDY CLOSURE AND POST-CLOSURE CARE AND MONITORING OF THE WASTE CALCINING FACILITY AT THE IDAHO NATIONAL ENGINEERING AND ENVIRONMENTAL LABORATORY

Abstract

This is a case study of the planning and execution of activities to close a waste processing facility under two environmental regimes: the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) requirements that apply to closure of hazardous waste treatment units; and the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) requirements for investigation and clean up of past releases. This case study produced lessons learned of interest to those involved with facilities in the same situation.
