Message from the ADIP 2008 Workshop Chairs

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the First IEEE International Workshop on Advances of Distributed Information Processing (ADIP 2008). This workshop is intended to serve as the forum for the presentation of technical advancements in the research development and application of information processing in computational Grids, large scale P2P system, and wireless sensor networks. The advantages of distributed system present plenty of opportunities for scientific and industrial contributions with long-term impact in both hardware and software aspects. We have been given very clear signal from the numbers and quality of the papers submitted to this workshop. It is clear that the distributed system and its related information processing technologies have attracted increasing enthusiastic researchers from diversified backgrounds, including computer sciences, information and communication engineering. It is necessary for this community to gather regularly to present their research achievements, to exchange ideas, and to find collaborative opportunities for future development. We sincerely hope ADIP 2008 will be the first in a series of many such technical meetings and we wish the community to continuously be involved in organizing the participating in future ADIP events. This year ADIP 2008 is held in conjunction with the 10 th IEEE International Conference on High Performance Computing and Communications (HPCC 2008). We imposed a very tight submission deadline, giving less than 8 weeks for the authors to prepare and submit the papers. We received 19 submissions overall, out of which 9 are accepted to be presented in the workshop. The submissions came from five different countries and reflect the value of the workshop as an international technical event. The quality of the submissions is excellent. We are also pleased to see the broad range of subjects addressed by the submissions as being covered by the workshop interests. It is a challenge to organize such an international workshop under a tight timeframe. Many people contributed their time and effort to the success of ADIP 2008. The Program Committee members and the referees deserve all the praise for providing timely and valuable reviews, and producing the excellent final program. We wish to thank the ADIP 2008 Local Chair, Guoli Wang, for coordination in review process and local arrangement. We would also like to thank the Workshop Chairs of HPCC 2008 Organizing Committee for encouraging the submission of the proposal for this workshop.
