Abstract
The Triassic ammonoid biostratigraphy of Israel comprises seven successive levels ranging from the basal Upper Anisian Balatonicus Zone to the basal Lower Carnian Aon Zone. A newly discovered level with Protrachyceras hispanicum (Mojs.), P. ladinum (Mojs.) widened form, and P. ladinum (Mojs.) var. parana Parnes (1962) allows correlation with the Upper Ladinian Archelaus Zone of the Tethyan Realm. The paleoenvironments, and the paleogeography and bio- stratigraphic significance with respect to the Sepharadic Province, of the level with P. hispanicum are discussed.
