Abstract
Purpose: This study investigated the effects of integrative self-esteem improvement programs on self-esteem, interpersonalrelations,andqualityoflifeforpersonswithamentaldisorder.Methods:Theperiodofthisstudywasfrom January 1st to January 31st, 2008. The subjects of this study were selected frompersons with a mental disorder at S hospital in D city. There were 48 subjects, 25 for an experimental group and the other 23 for a control group. The research design was a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design as a quasi-experimental study. Data was analyzed using theSPSS/WIN12.0 programwith chi-square test and repeatedmeasurement ANOVA. Results:There was a significant change in self-esteem, interpersonal relations, and quality of life in the experimental group after treatment, which was significantly different from those in the control group. Conclusion: The integrative self-esteem improvementprogramwaseffectiveonimprovingself-esteem,interpersonalrelations,andqualityoflifeforpersonswith amentaldisorder. Therefore,itisrecommendedthat integrativeself-esteemimprovement programs shouldbeusedin clinical practice as an effective nursing intervention for persons with a mental disorder.
