Abstract

The geographical distribution of population has undergone major changes in last 50 years and will continue to experience significant changes during the coming decades. The level of urbanization varies significantly across region. This study is to show the trends of population growth in modern era. Conclude its dependencies with topography and living condition present. This study shows us that there considerable decrease in population density as altitude increases. Due to the unavailability of facilities, basic utilities, lack of infrastructure household relocate to the urban. The study shows that hilly regions have negative growth rate when compared to urban region. The area taken for this study is of Kerala state. The Kerala topography consists of coastal plain gradually rising in elevation to high hills and mountains of Western Ghats. The result of the study is Topography is found to be directly related with population growth. Low lying areas are found to have very high population growth. Lack of physical and social infrastructure is the major reason for the less population in highly elevated areas.
