Abstract

Summary The different extracts of Murraya koenigii Linn (Rutaceae) were evaluated for 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity. Ascorbic acid was used as reference standard. The extracts exhibited strong antioxidant radical scavenging activity with IC 50 value of 4.72 µg/ml, 4.10 µg/ml, 4.46 µg/ml and 2.69 µg/ml for acetone, alcohol, aqueous extract and ascorbic acid respectively. The phytochemical screening suggests that phenolic and flavonoids present in these extracts of the leaves might provide considerable antioxidant activity.
